Just Cool Things

Eeyore a Norwegian Fjord 10 years old originally foundered in autumn 2008 and was diagnosed with Cushing in July 2009 in Riverside Ca.  In June his eggbars shoes and wedges were replaced with wooden clogs and casts.  His left fore hoof was resected to remove a gas bubble.  The following pictures document his case from his first visit to Dr. Michael Hoge in Murrietta Ca in 6/8 and again in 7/20/09.

Eeyore's visit to Dr. Hoge in July 20th.  This is 5 weeks after we removed his eggbars, trimmed him and then replaced his wooden shoes and casts.  Originally I had used some dental impression under his heels only.  One week later I noticed he was not as comfortable and removed the dental impression and trimmed his heels some then cast his wooden shoes on again.  This foot due to the resection grew much more rapidly then his right fore.  At this point he had barely visible lameness and was much more comfortable.

This is Eeyore on Sept 6th.  So much growth, he ad a lot of heel growth that was taken down and plenty of sole where there once none.  From here we took of the wooden shoes and did a double cast.

Note on his wooden shoe how far back he brought his break over.  This was because I had left the toe too long as I was a bit uncertain of taking him so far back, even though I could have very well done so based on the radiographs.  His cast look as if he has a dish but that was only cast material.  In the end he stands straight with his feed under him, with his canon bones perpendicular to the ground.
